BORONGAN CITY, Jan. 17 (PIA)-The Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative (ESAMELCO) sends-off the 'warriors of light' or linemen from eight electric coops who helped restore electric powers in areas affected by Typhoon Ursula.

In simple ceremonies at La Vista Resort, Guiuan, Eastern Samar, Gen. Manager Jose Michael Edwin Amancio thanked the linemen for their help.

"Tayo ay sama-sama, iisa lang ang objective ang rural electrification development and nation building kung may bagyo, mga two months para ayusin... pero dahil nandito kayo, mabilisan pag normalize," said Amancio as he showed appreciation for the assistance.

Electric Coops who sent their linemen also known as "warriors of light" were Leyeco 4 and Soleco from Eastern Visayas and Agusan del Norte Electric Coop (ANECO), Agusan del Sur Electric Coop (ASELCO), First Bukidnon Electric Coop, FEBICO) Surigao del Norte Electric Coop,(SURNECO),Surigao del Sur Electric Coop (SURSECO) 1 and 2.

It will be remembered that on December 24, Typhoo Ursula lashed its wrath of sustained wind speeds of 120 kph and gustiness of 150 kph which toppled down electric and communication lines.

On January 15, Esamelco declared that 99 percent of its consumers were reconnected.

Esamelco Institutional Services Department Head, Imelda Ladera said that consumers with no problems on their dropwire and electric meters are now connected while damaged meters will be replaced with no expense from the consumer.

However, Ladera said that they are still waiting for their supplier in Manila.

The warriors of light or linemen stayed from December 27 to January 15 to help restore the damaged lines especially in the southern part of the province.

As a token of appreciation, the manager and the entire Esamelco family treated the warriors of light to a party before sending them off to their families.

"The 'warriors of light' missed their families on new year as they were here trying to reconnect our electric lines," said Ladera. (nbq/PIA 8-E. Samar)
